my night routine

lately i have been really needing to focus on my night routine before bed and it has been helping my sleep so much. i never used to pay much attention to my routine before bed because i would always fall asleep so easily, but that shifted a bit and so putting effort into my routine has been really important. 

would 1000% recommend the podcast episode “Sleep Smarter with Shawn Stevenson” on Ed Mylett’s podcast. he talks about the key steps to sleeping smarter and why it is so important for your health. from supplements, to a dark space, to less screens and caffeine, it’s really an amazing episode and i learned a lot. 

my night routine:

i try to go to sleep by 9:30/10:00 so i’ll start my routine about an hour before i want to go to sleep. 

first - put my phone and all screens away. i’ve also been using blue-light glasses if i need to be on my phone or computer late. i’m not sure how effective it is but it seems to be helping. 

second - do my nighttime skincare routine. 

third - drink a glass of water with magnesium powder - the one from trace minerals is my favorite. magnesium is a really amazing supplement to include in your routine, i definitely recommend !!

fourth - stretch and roll out my body. being consistent with stretching and rolling has helped my workouts so much and it’s such a good way to relax and wind down before bed. 

fifth - journaling. i’m trying to be more consistent with journaling but lately it’ll just look like writing out my schedule for the next day, my to do’s, and any goals or plans for the next day. 

sixth - lastly i’ll read whatever book i’m currently reading until i feel tired and ready for bed. reading also quiets my mind and just feels good to do before i go to sleep. 

and sleep! keeping a cool temperature in my space, a dark room, and no noise all are non-negotiables for me to fall asleep. in college it’s so hard so earplugs + eye masks have been life-savers !!


things i want to try that many recommended: i really want to try lavender oil. so many recommended it to me to put on my body, diffuse in a diffuser, or use as a linen spray, all works amazing for a night routine. also got recommended some cbd melatonin gummies that i really want to try too !!
